· Tomorrow- Tuesday, January 27th and Thursday, January 29th, students will take their mid-year Global Scholar assessment. This assessment will measure growth of the students since the beginning of the year. We are looking at growth specifically in the areas of Math and Reading. These assessments will be taken in the morning.
Students need to have CHARGED CHROMEBOOKS and EARBUDS/Headphones for these assessments. Thank you so much!
· Brock’s Gap Parent Academy/PTO is tomorrow night, ( January 27th). PTO will begin at 6:00 with Parent Academy Sessions from 6:30-7:30 P.M. Childcare will be provided in the cafeteria. Parent Academy Sessions will include leadership opportunities for students, technology in the school and at home, and math in today’s schools. We hope to see you!
- The Voyagers are looking forward to going on our field trip to the American Village next Wednesday, February 4th! The cost for students is $13.00. This fee can still be paid online at www.myschoolfees.com. Any chaperone that wishes to attend is welcome to join us. You will need to meet us there or follow the buses. The cost for chaperones is $9.00. This fee also can be paid on www.myschoolfees.com. The payment for this trip was due today, however it is not too late to still pay tonight or to send payment tomorrow!
· Our ACT Aspire testing dates have been announced. The dates are April 7th through April 10th. Please mark these on your calendar and avoid scheduling appointments, if at all possible.

Curriculum News: Math: Topics of Study – We began addition and subtraction of fractions with unlike denominators today. We will have Math computation as well as IXL this week.There will be a math computation quiz on Friday. This will also include some questions on equivalent fractions as well as comparing and ordering fractions. Science: Topics of Study – This week we are continuing to learn more about Technology used in Space (past, present, and future). Students were assigned a Space Technology Menu of activities. Students are using their Chromebooks to research and learn about the different types of technology used to investigate space. Students have a list of activities which they may choose to complete. The activities they select should equal 60 points. I have not given a due date yet. We are doing most of this work in class. If students are not done by this Friday, I will evaluated how much more time may be needed. We are also discussing the effects of gravitational force on Earth, the Moon, and within space. It is my plan to have a Science test next week.
Language Arts: Topics of Study–This is a Writing/Spelling week. We will continue our Informative Writing unit from last week and begin writing our drafts. Spelling words for the week are from the root word PORT. Spelling words are: deport, export,import, portable, portage, porter, portfolio, report, support, transport.
Spelling test on Friday, Jan., 30th.
Social Studies: Topics of Study– We will complete our study of the
American Revolution with a test on Wednesday. We will then begin our study of the Constitution. We will begin our study with the Articles of Confederation.
